Tax Saving Entity Structures
I find that most people have a good grasp of the basics
when it comes to entities, but are often missing the little
things that can have a huge impact (good and bad) on tax
savings.  I have a real-life story that captures this well.

Pierre is starting a business and calls his tax preparer to
ask what type of entity he needs for his business.
Pierre's tax preparer responds with what Pierre refers to
as "confusing accountant talk," but Pierre is able to
translate enough to learn that S Corporations are best for
businesses.  So Pierre forms his S Corporation and is off
and running his new business.

At the beginning of the next year, it's time for Pierre to
do his tax returns.  Pierre's new business had losses its
first year, which Pierre expected.  While Pierre is not
excited about the losses, he is excited that at least the
losses will offset his wife's salary so they will pay less
in tax.

But Pierre is shocked and surprised when he receives his
tax returns!  First, he learns he can't take his business
losses currently because he didn't fund the losses
personally.  Instead, his S Corporation funded the losses
by getting a bank loan that Pierre guaranteed.  Second, not
only does Pierre have an unexpected tax liability, he also
has higher tax return preparation fees because he now has 2
tax returns to file - his personal tax return and his S
Corporation tax return.

Better Tax Results with a Sole Proprietorship than an S
Corporation!  Really? In this tax story, Pierre would have
had better tax results if his business was taxed as a sole
proprietorship.  In a sole proprietorship, the losses would
have been fully deductible and the business activity would
have been included in Pierre's individual tax return so
there would have been only 1 tax return to file.  Plus,
this could have been done in such a way so Pierre could
still have his business taxed as an S Corporation in the
future.

Pierre was shocked to learn this!  He had always heard that
sole proprietorships were terrible and to avoid them by any
means necessary!

STOP RIGHT HERE!  The first time I shared this story, I
received some emails from readers telling me I was crazy.
Was I really suggesting a sole proprietorship over an S
Corporation?  The answer is yes and no.  Yes, for tax
savings purposes.  No, for legal purposes.  The good news
is you can have it both ways because...

Tax Terms Do Not Have the Same Meaning as Legal Terms Tax
strategies and asset protection planning use the same terms
but they have very different meanings.

Let me give you an example.  You buy a rental property and
put it in a Limited Liability Company (LLC).  You are the
only member of the LLC.

For legal purposes, your rental property is owned by an
entity - your LLC. For tax purposes, your rental property
is treated as if you owned it directly - meaning it is
taxed as a sole proprietorship.

In this case, there is a sole proprietorship for tax
purposes but not for legal purposes.

LLCs are extremely flexible in how they are treated for tax
purposes, making it possible to have a sole proprietorship
for tax purposes and an entity for legal purposes.  Even
better, LLCs can also be taxed as Corporations (C or S
Corporations), so they are extremely effective when
creating tax saving entity structures.

Why Didn't Someone Tell Me This? Pierre learned all of this
too late and of course asked his tax preparer, why didn't I
know this?  And that's the heart of this issue.  Pierre did
the right thing by asking his tax preparer about the entity
early on, but it was an issue of - you don't know what you
don't know.

In a perfect world, the tax preparer would have asked the
right questions to learn more about Pierre's goals and
situation and would have translated "confusing accountant
talk" into something clear and understandable.  In general,
S Corporations are good entities for businesses.  But, they
can be terrible when there are losses, and losses are
common when a business first begins.

Expert Advice in a Cash Crunch Tax advice is very specific
to each person.  When I first work with a new client, I
spend at least 3 months with that client focusing on their
goals in order to create a tax structure that works for
them.  And I coach them on the triggering events they need
to be aware of that will change their tax structure so they
learn when they need to ask questions.

Business owners and investors need expert advice when they
are starting their business or investing and this is the
same time when they feel the greatest cash pinch!  It's
clear from the business owners and investors I talk to that
they all want the expert advice, some believe (right or
wrong) that they just aren't in a position to pay for it at
that moment.  What they usually do is get a quick answer
(like Pierre) and deal with it later.  Unfortunately, the
nightmare stories people share with me end with "deal with
it later" meaning paying much more later.

Cost Effective Solution Many people ask me if I have a
"cost effective" solution.  Translation: "I'm willing to
spend a few hundred dollars, do some of the leg work myself
and I want a lot of bang for my buck!"

I learned quickly that business owners not only want, but
need, an inexpensive way to get up to speed on entities and
tax structures so they can better prepare themselves to
meet with their tax preparer.

It is an obvious fact that hundreds even if not thousands

domain name for your business.

- It is worthwhile to mention that you should avoid all
free web hosting services as you will never get your own
domain name.

Rather, choose a reputable and outstanding web hosting

Tool #2: Article Submission Service.

It is clear for each online marketer that article marketing
is one of the best tools to spread the word about your
website. However, most of the beginners give up this
strategy due to the huge time and effort needed to manually
submit your articles to the article directories.

However, you must avoid this top serious myth that coasted
me a lot as I started few years ago. It does not make any
sense to target article submission service that submits the
same version of your article to the target publishers.

I tried most of these services and they do not help to get
back links to your website due to the duplicate content
penalty by Google.

Instead, you must target a service that asks you to write
your article several times to guarantee the readability of
all your versions.

Then, several unique versions of your article will be
generated by randomly choosing the paragraphs from the
versions you provided. This way, each article gets for you
a one-way high quality back link.

I got excellent results by using unique submission services.

Tool #3: Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Guide.

It is another one of the top tools that you must have.

It is clear what is meant by this tool as you need to learn
how to optimize your website to be indexed by Google and
get high search engine rankings. The internet is full of
these guides!

However, avoid this top mistake that can cost you hundreds
of $ for nothing. Check the credit history of the guide's
owner as the internet is full of guides that "guarantee"
for you a top position and here are two serious points that
you should consider:

- Google changes his algorithms periodically. So, with
proper and ethical SEO techniques, you can get a high
position on the first page but no one can guarantee to keep
the same position all the time.

So, be careful of "Top #1 position on Google in few days".

- The guide's owner must show you that he owns a high
position for very competitive keywords. To do so, check his
target keyword in Google, like "keyword", to see how many
websites are competing for this keyword.

If you get more than 100,000-200,000 results, then it is
fine. Obviously, there are other complementary business
tools like auto-responder, pay per click guide but they are
not as much necessary as the previous 3 tools, which are a
must to start.

I personally know many business owners who reached their
goals in reasonable time just by successfully combining the

A Success Secret Every Entrepreneur Knows...
Every entrepreneur knows that if they want to become  more
successful they have to not only set goals for themselves,
but they have to RESET their goals to stay on course.

The big problem, though, is most entrepreneurs wait way too
long to reset their goals. Since today is July 1st (and the

create new energy every day. Some ideas to put in your plan
are: exercise, meditation, sleep, healthy food, and sex.

All of these ideas will help you create new energy; keep
your mind and body sharp; and keep you sane!

3. Marketing Goal

For us entrepreneurs, marketing is the most important part
of our business. After all, without new, fresh blood
(clients, customers, patients) coming in the door on a
regular basis, we'll be out of business.  Fast.

That's why resetting your marketing goals are so crucial.
What have you done in the past 6 months that's worked? Do
more of it this next six months.  What have you done that
has not worked? Don't do it anymore.

Looking at your successes and tests (failures) will help
you determine which way to go for the next few months.
Reset your marketing goals now and watch the money flow

So there you have it, three types of goals to RESET for the
remainder of this year. Of course, you can reset more than

Scripting the Subconscious
Waxing elequently about love, peace, unity and honoring the
earth is not enough. Expounding on our love for God is not
enough. What is also needed is an authentic respect and
love for who we inwardly are.  We honor who we are when we
learn to deliberately script the subconscious part of the
mind.

We need to remember to care for our own needs. This is not
selfishness; it is a form of commonsense. As we honor our
journey, it behooves us to remember the subconscious part
of the mind is wisdom itself and knows the answers to our
questions.  It will help us be grounded as well as
balanced.  It is a neutral friend. It will not argue or
talk back to us.  If we feel we are old looking, do not
have the energy to look for work and that it is too late to
find love and life, it will be exactly as we programmed it.
 These are excuses we create that block our own good.  You
know all this but are you persistent enough to change the
habitual feeling and thinking patterns to receive and act
so you can remove yourself from ongoing dramas?  The
subconscious is independent, meaning it has a mind of its
own but you are the one who programs it.

The creative intelligence operates as instinct and the law
of growth.  Different forms of belief are found in all
religions and philosophies around the world. What do you
accept as true about yourself, life and purpose?  Whatever
you believe becomes your reality.  Your belief is a
tremendous power stored in the subconscious part of the
mind being distributed into every phase of your life as a
result of your thinking and feeling habits.  The belief of
your mind is the thought of your mind.  Even though this
information is not new and most people are aware of it, the
majority continues to undermine their lives by believing
and wishing for things that will eventually harm them.  All
the reflections and reactions experienced are children of
our thoughts. This in its self is hard to accept because if
the result is a negative, it is very uncomfortable being
responsible for what we create. Create we do...habitually.
Many illnesses are caused by negative thoughts, stress and
fear lodged in the subjective.  You can turn this around
through understanding, accepting, loving and acting on the
truth that the infinite power and intelligence within is a
healing power and it has the capacity to heal all
conditions.

Understand that all your vacillating back and forth with
doubt, indecision and fear neutralizes any help that could
easily be yours.  It is similar to standing in one spot and
marching vigorously.  You are stuck. It is necessary that
you relax your mind and body and quietly accept and affirm
that the subconscious does know the answer.  It will
respond if you don't jeopardize the process.  You must do
this with real conviction.  You are what you think all day.
 If you keep thinking you can't pay the bills, you won't be
able to.  There is a way out. You can choose to have
everything you desire and even be outrageously rich.  The
subconscious cannot take a joke. Whatever you think and
feel, it accepts as truth and will eventually bring all the
desires to pass if you stay with the programming.  Try
being the master of your subconscious and life.

Nothing appears on the body or in our life except when the
mental equivalent is first in the mind. Inundate the mind
with right thinking and we change the body.  It behooves us
to let go, relax and speak to the subconscious telling it
to take over in areas of concern.  All statements must be
said with a tone of authority and conviction. Only then
will it conform to a command and reverse a negative.  The
subconscious is always working whether we are awake or
asleep.  It expresses, reproduces and manifests nonstop.
In other words, belief is the cause that triggers effects.
What the subconscious has created can be reversed with
discipline and scientific imagination.

If there is an internal mental change, whether positive or
negative, it will manifest in the body. it is an automatic
response.  What I am suggesting is striving for
self-mastery.  The more of us who are consciously aware of
how we create cause and effect, the greater our collective
power will be if our inner mental patterns correspond with
our dreams for a better life for all people, creatures and
Earth. The strongest instinct, survival, is powerful.
Befriend the subconscious and observe what happens in all
areas of your life.  You can turn anything around through
understanding, acceptance, loving and acting on the truth
that the creative intelligence within has the capacity to
heal, restructure and transform and yes, heal all
conditions.

Network Marketing - What is a Scam?
I am involved in some network marketing businesses.
Through various marketing channels, I get lots of
questions.  Usually via e-mail, sometimes via phone.  You
want to know what one of the most common questions I hear
is?  I bet you have asked it yourself, because I know I
have.

"Is this a scam?"

Sure, it comes in different flavors.  Some of my favorites
include, "This is a total scam, dude!";  "I've seen scams
like this before!", and "No way, people fall for this
scam??"

I looked it up.  According to the fine folks at
www.m-w.com, the word scam is simply defined as such:  a
fraudulent or deceptive act or operation.  OK, that's
pretty loose.  I mean, how many "deceptive acts" do we deal
with on a daily basis?  TV commercials, reality shows,
political debates?  When you really think about it, it is
hard to be persuasive without some degree of deceit.  And
that's all advertising is; persuasion.  Unless you want to
live thinking the whole world is "a scam", I think you can
only focus on the "fraudulent" part of Mr. Webster's
definition.

Fraud is a whole other subject.  To me, fraud in network
marketing is indeed something to be wary of.  I'm sure
there are examples of businesses that started only to take
money from a few trusting individuals, then shut down and
take the money and run.  Still others only collect e-mail
address for the purpose of selling them.

What you will find is more prevalent, however, are smaller
transgressions, such as improper statistics.  For example,
most sites will show how "Jim made $5000 in 2 days".  Is
this fraudulent?  Probably not.

Here's how to protect yourself

If you've made the decision to persue a network marketing
business, either via internet or not, you MUST look at all
claims using your own sense of reason.  First off, assume
that all the advertising you hear and read is true.  Most
likely, every claim you read is verifiable in one way or
another.  Secondly, assume that the same WILL NOT happen to
you.

Read this carefully.  I am NOT saying you will not make
money.  I am NOT saying the advertising is deceitful or
fraudulent.  I AM saying what most people won't tell you.
It is highly, highly unlikely that your immediate results
will mirror those you hear about.  Of course there is a
chance, but if you assume that "you will be different", you
are going to be disappointed.

Do not forget that network marketing is first and foremost
a business.  It is not a magic potion to cure you of
suffocating debt and daily financial woes.  It takes time,
patience, courage, risk, capital, understanding, education,
and (once again for emphasis) time!

Make sure whatever business you start has at least these
two things.  One, viable marketable products that are in
demand. Two, a strong training and support network,
preferably of people whose success depends on your own.

Information Overload? Seven Productivity and Learning Tips
Hundreds of thousands of new books, analyst reports,
scientific papers published every year. Millions of
websites at our googletips. The flow of data, information
and knowledge is growing exponentially, stretching the
capacity of our not-so-evolved brains. We can complain all
day that we cannot process ALL this flow. Now, let me ask,
should we even try?

Probably not. Why engage in a losing proposition. Instead,
let me offer a few strategies that can help manage this
flow of information better. From "process" to "manage".

1. Prioritize: strategic consulting firms such as McKinsey
and BCG train their staff in the so-called 80/20 rule: 80%
of effects are caused by the top 20% of causes. In a
company, 80% sales may come from 20% of the accounts.
Implication: focus on that top 20%; don't spend too much
time on the 80% that only account for 20%.

2. Leverage a scientific mindset. Scientists shift through
tons of data in efficient, goal-oriented ways. How do they
do it? By first stating a hypothesis and then looking for
data. For example, an untrained person could spend weeks
"boiling the ocean", trying to read as much as possible, in
a very fragmentary way, about how physical exercise affects
our brain. A trained scientist would first define clear
hypotheses and preliminary assumptions, such as "Physical
exercise can enhance the brain's ability to generate new
neurons" or "Those new neurons appear in the hippocampus",
and then look specifically for data that corroborates or
refutes those sentences, enabling him or her to refine the
hypotheses further, based on accumulated knowledge, in a
virtuous learning cycle.

3. Link the new information to previous one. One cannot
process, or remember, millions of fragmented, random facts.
Preparing concept maps, either in paper or using software
tools, is a great method to build expert knowledge and
pattern-recognition over time, the opposite of being lost
in a sea of random tidbits.

4. Set Clear Goals to achieve this week/ month/ quarter.
Maybe 3-5. Write them down, and review periodically. Why is
this useful? Because by stating those clear goals you are
building you own lens through which to filter information,
and focus on the information you really care about. You set
up your own agenda, and not be at the mercy of someone
else's brain. You don't need to know, you really don't need
to know (unless you work in Entertainment Weekly), what is
going on with celebrity XYZ this week.

5. Review those goals at the end of the week/ month/
quarter. Did you achieve them? What could you have done
differently?. The goal here is to ensure a learning loop.
You can "evolve your brain" in your lifetime by making sure
you learn a bit every day, every week, and accumulate
knowledge and abilities over time.

are considering investing in a property.  Consider 2
different titles to the article.  One could say:

"Real estate investors overlook some things when investing
in property" or "The 5 things that real estate investors
overlook in property investment that can cost them
thousands of dollars per deal"

Both titles can be on top of the same article but which one
draws you in more?  If you are interested in not losing
thousands of dollars when you are investing in property,
then you will be more likely to read the article with the
2nd title.  The 2nd title includes a powerful benefit the
reader will receive by reading the article... how to save
thousands of dollars.  The first title tells you what the
article is about, but it doesn't tell you what you will
walk away with other than knowing some things that you need
to remember.  Some practice may be required and writing
powerful titles that draw the reader in and are also within
a specific number of characters because some article
directory sites limit the number of characters of your
article title.

When writing an article, it is important to create a title
that "draws" the reader into reading your article.  It is
very important that your article actually be about what is
in the title or you will quickly lose credibility with your
reader.  The whole goal is to get them to click on your
links at the end of your article.  This is just one tip
that will increase the number of visitors to your website,
and there are three other tips that will help you create
powerful article titles as well.

Going Beyond the Financial Advisor Comfort Zone
The Recession Is A Choice, What's Yours? financial advisor
speaking presentation includes a segment on The Comfort
Zone.

I've been reflecting about The Comfort Zone given that I
see so many financial advisors stuck in it and my evidence
is I just spoke to groups of financial advisors in two
cities and when I asked them to raise their hand if they
had a written vision, business plan and 90 day goals on
January 1, 2009, not one of them raised their hand.

What is The Comfort Zone really?

It should be relabelled as The Experience Zone ... we do
what we are comfortable and experienced with.

Once in a while we will jump into The Willpower Zone and
get what we want for a time and then fall flat back on our
ass because The Willpower Zone is unsustainable.

Let's not forget about The Instant Gratification Zone were
we look for a quick fix in the form of drugs, shopping, TV,
gossip, alcohol, and the consumption of all products
containing alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, fat, salt and
sugar. Note that I nicked the above list of medications off
of James Redfield, who wrote The Legend Of Bagger Vance and
The War Of Art, and his full quote is at the bottom of this
article.

Like The Willpower Zone, after we get our quick fix with
The Instant Gratification Zone we are right back where we
started - struggling to survive versus being all that we
can be.

There is another zone that we must face and to quote Chris
Barrow; "To achieve a resolution that has integrity and
sustainability it is inevitable, indeed necessary, to enter
the discomfort zone. It cannot and should not be avoided,
as it is an integral part of the process. Any resolution
that has side stepped this area is unlikely to be robust
and will collapse at some point."

Going through The Discomfort Zone will lead us through to
The Inspiration Zone which is essential to be all that you
can be in any economy.

The Inspiration Zone is where we live our values and our
vision and experience them through our personal and
business goals combined with a business plan and 90 day
goals.

Why do we resist The Discomfort Zone in our venti, half
caff, non-fat, easy foam, extra hot, almond latte instant
gratification society?

We have plenty of learned quotes to remind us:
